The practice of general surgery involves the evaluation and management of a wide variety of conditions involving the skin, chest and abdomen, including surgical management of cancer of the breast, internal organs and other tissues. Some medical conditions may require a minor surgical procedure, which can be performed in the office, while others may require hospitalization and the use of special equipment, as with Laparoscopy.
The surgeon may also help coordinate a team of physicians in the comprehensive management of a patient, as in the case of a patient diagnosed with cancer.
